App submission requirements
Languages & tech
- HTML, CSS and JavaScript. TypeScript is fine once compiled to JS.
- WebAssembly from C, C++, Rust, Go, Zig or AssemblyScript (Emscripten, wasm-pack, etc.). SIMD and threads work.
- Graphics: WebGL 2 or Canvas. WebGPU is not available.
- Any framework or engine (React, Svelte, Phaser, PixiJS, three.js, Godot web export) if it stays within the size limit.
- Static files only, with an
index.htmlentry. No server code. - Not accepted: native binaries, Android/iOS apps, browser extensions.
Fits the car
- Landscape layout that works at 773×601 CSS pixels with no sideways scrolling, and scales up for full screen.
- Touch first: tap targets at least 44 px, no hover-only controls, no keyboard required. Gamepad support is a bonus.
- Runs smoothly on the slowest cars (Intel Atom, 4 cores): aim for 30 fps or better.
- Under 25 MB total; under 5 MB is recommended. Should load in about 10 seconds on LTE.
- Sound starts only after the user taps.
- Works offline after the first load (recommended).
How apps run
- Apps open in a sandboxed frame. Pop-ups and leaving frunk.store are blocked.
- localStorage and IndexedDB work. Prefix keys with your app id.
- The page is cross-origin isolated: anything loaded from another domain must be HTTPS and send CORS or
Cross-Origin-Resource-Policyheaders. Bundling assets is easier.
Rules
- Made for parked use. Nothing meant for use while driving and nothing that gets around the car's driving limits.
- You own or have the rights to all code, art and audio. Open-source licenses are fine; include them. No copyrighted ROMs or pirated games.
- No malware, crypto mining, hidden tracking, or collecting passwords.
- Don't use Tesla's or anyone else's branding as your own.
- No adult content.
What to send
- App name, a one-line description, and a category (game, tool, media, other).
- A link to the source repo, or a zip of the built files.
- A square icon (SVG, or PNG at 512×512) and a screenshot at 773×601.
- The license, and which controls it supports: touch, gamepad, keyboard.
Every app is tested in a real car before it's listed.
